Scare new users when they are getting started.

warning-edit-conflict

Edit conflict.

Save the big warning messages for dangerous actions, PLEASE!

Alright! eZ is installed, ready for the first time user to explore and enjoy!

The new user creates and edits a document or two. Then will use the forward and back buttons on their browser to quickly move back and review an earlier page.

BANG, a big ugly warning message to frighten them.

The explanation is right there below the warning, but they are scared, and scared users don't read, they pick up the phone.

While that warning makes a nice training tool, to explain to users what is involved in editing, versions, and what happens when you use the back arrow rather than the "Discard draft" button, it is too graphically intense. The warning can logically be gentled down and a clear explanation presented.

Something like..

"Hey, please use the "Discard draft" button at the bottom of the document next time instead of leaving without warning. Using the button helps insure and protect the integrity of the document and document versioning, particularly in a multi-user environment.

Probably last time you were here, you used your browser back arrow to leave this page in the middle of an edit. The system needs to know if you want to save or discard changes every time you access content in edit mode. Please use the buttons at the bottom to exit an edit session, not browser arrows. Then you will no longer see this message unless there is a legitimate versioning conflict with another user.

Thank you!"

What happens to your content and the state of the db when you leave without warning? You lose any changes made prior to clicking your back arrow. That is all. Not worthy of a big yellow warning sign that scares technology neophytes or brand new users of the system.
