Classes are what eZ Publish calls content objects that have a defined structure in place and are ready to be used by anyone who can fill out an online web form. They are the third tier template, below site and layout blocks.
Articles, blogs, forums, polls, galleries, etc, are prebuilt classes, ready to accept content from any user any where at any time.
Developers build these classes, the editors and publishers will choose if, when and where to publish the content created using these classes.
Classes are the meat and potatoes of eZ in other words, in a platform that allows anyone to create content. A day is well spent exploring the capabilities of the built in classes.
Plenty of content options are available straight out of the box, without need for any special programming or customizations. Extensions can add classes to the base package. The eZ Flow extension adds several mutlimedia classes. Web developers can build custom classes to match even more specific needs.
