The people in pomme country and visitors enjoy access to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. Although the web has simplified access to information regarding these opportunities, the information is silo'd off into various sites and formats.

Pulling these various information streams into a communications system that was immediately useful for me was the goal. I like to hunt, fish, and generally get outdoors in pomme country.

The Old Way

Bookmarks, hyperlinks, stored here, there, and everywhere. When looking for the best opportunity to hunt or fish in the area, click links, dig through sites, spend time web browsing that could be spent fishing. The usefulness of the web as a valuable information resource is offset by time and energies keeping it all organized.

eZ Mashup

New way, mashup, all pertinent information right there in front of me in practically a heads up display format. The US Army Corp of Engineers, Missouri State Parks, and Missouri Dept of Conservation each provide valuable information regarding aspects of the available opportunities. Additionally weather forecasts and real time radar information is pertinent and available on the web.

The front page of the pommecountry.com site is headlined by a mashup that incorporates the best currently available information to enjoy the great outdoors in the area. Emergency contact info is logically included. Links to other community information and events surround the mashup.

This mashup was immediately useful for me. So much so, that I wanted a quick way to get all this contact info into my blackberry smartphone. As a final step, the entire mashup of links may be downloaded as a single vcard, so anyone, any where, may easily transfer the full set of links into their smart phone.

Technology was supposed to simplify our lives, remember.
