Every day useful keyboard shortcuts
Timesavers that are useful every day, if not every hour of every day.
- Apple-x, c, and v. Cut, copy, paste. Same thing as Edit->Cut, Edit->Copy, Edit-Paste, but no need to go to the menu.
- Cntrl-Click, simulates a right click on a two button mouse. Pops a context sensitive menu.
- Apple-?, actually Apple-Shift-/, but the idea is help you with a question. Displays the help menu. Only the beginning of something very useful. Start typing the question as soon as the help menu displays. The best match within the application menu likely will display directly below the search. And in Opera and Safari, a search into links and history is performed. Firefox captures this key combination for it's own use. One more reason to use Opera over Firefox.
- Escape, the esc key in the upper left of the keyboard. Backs out, usually one step at a time from keyboard shortcuts.
- Apple+, Apple-, Apple key down, then tap + or -. Repeatedly to increase or decrease font size incrementally in many applications. Particularly useful as a web browser shortcut key to zoom pages in or out. Does not work in Opera Browser, but way cooler in Opera is two fingered trackpad zooming by holding down the Apple key. Just like full display zooming, but stays within the Opera browser window.
